IT Support - System Administrator


TDJ Australia Pty Ltd is a long established and rapidly growing company in Braeside, Victoria, one of Melbourne's inner South Eastern Suburbs, operating as a Designer and Importer / Wholesaler of a wide range of electronic goods & accessories (with a special focus on Automotive Connectivity and Integration) for distribution into the Australia & New Zealand market.

We are now seeking an IT Support - System Administrator to join our IT team in Braeside. Reporting to the IT Manager, the main objective of this position is to monitor system performance, as well as provide support to both local and remote staff and to help our users resolve technical problems they may encounter.


Your responsibilities and functions:

  • Install, test monitor and maintain servers & PC's, networking hardware & software systems.

  • Replace hardware and software as instructed.

  • Provide IT support to internal / external users via phone, ticket and remote access.

  • Perform diagnostic tests for problem resolution to enable timely troubleshooting or repair with minimal down time, according to priorities defined by the IT Manager.

  • Monitor the systems daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns.

  • Create and verify backups.

  • Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution.

  • Maintain accurate records of all computers, software, users and networks.

  • Where practicable, keep up to date with current trends and be prepared to take part in decision making.

  • Produce support, training materials and documentation as required by the IT Manager.

  • Assist with IT development tasks as directed or where practicable. Please indicate your experience with this.

  • Maintain records of any software modification done or requested to external suppliers.

  • Perform other duties as allocated by the IT Manager to fulfil IT support - System Admin responsibilities.

  • May be requested to provide assistance to internal or external users outside work hours from time to time (rare).


Essential requirements of successful candidates:

  • TAFE qualifications in IT, preferably in Computer Systems Engineering or an ability commensurate to the same or better level of expertise gained from professional experience.

  • Strong commitment to best practices in ITC, particularly in supporting users to achieve company targets.

  • Superior problem solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication & customer service skills.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux, particularly Debian based distros.

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows server (2016+), best practices of it’s services and use.

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows 10 (required), Mac OSX and Ubuntu Desktop OS's (highly valued).

  • Experience with AD management.

  • Good knowledge of LAN and other inter-networks (wifi, vlans, vpns etc).

  • Strong understanding of a wide variety of business computing equipment and software, particularly their deployment, support and security.


Desired skills:

  • Knowledge or familiarity with ansible/salt/chef automation frameworks etc.

  • Knowledge of AWS,GCP and on-prem virtualisation docker stacks.

  • Knowledge of Google Apps Script, bash, python, perl, or any other scripting language.

  • Knowledge of Google G-Suite Administration (or desire to learn).

  • Knowledge of DNS, Web and Database server administration.

  • Familiarity with Nagios, cacti or similar.

  • Familiarity with ITIL.
